Anonymous Painting by Parag chandiwal

Initially, I was drawn to painting because it offered a mode of expression less complex than words. Though that has changed in recent times, it was always about needing to find a way to say something, but not with picture perfect image. Sometimes pictures oversimplify feelings. The central theme I try to work on is - emotions. I’ve never had the right words to describe my life and I still struggle with it sometime.

Anonymous series is inspired by works of Kazimir Malevich, with take on white on white rejecting the norms of abstract expressionism. To remove the painting from me as an individual far away as possible and to represent just the bare bones.

I used to be hesitant about painting with muted, greyed colors. Not only did these softer, muted palettes suggest a quiet sense of looking, I also saw more complexity in what at first seemed rather simple. I’d like to think of it in terms of my own artistic growth, but I don’t think that one approach to color is necessarily more complex than the other.
